.KEY MESSAGES...

1. Strong winds will continue to impact the Kern County
Mountains and Deserts through this evening.

2. Dense fog is possible across the San Joaquin Valley on
Saturday morning, with a 60 to 80 percent chance for
visibilities of a quarter mile or less between Hanford and
Merced.

3. Another storm is expected to bring chances of more
precipitation to the area on Sunday.

4. Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures will prevail for
most of next week.

.DISCUSSION...The storm system which moved across Norcal
overnight brought widespread precipitation to our area, with
only the rain shadowed Kern County Deserts being left out. Much
of the San Joaquin Valley picked up between a tenth and a
quarter inch of rainfall while areas from Fresno northward
generally had a quarter to a half inch of rainfall while amounts
were less than a tenth of an inch south of Delano. Much of the
Sierra foothills picked up between a half inch and an inch of
rain while SNOTELs indicated an estimated 3 to 5 inches of new
snowfall over the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada above
6500 feet. A more significant impact that this system had was
that it prodcued widespread wind gusts exceeding 60 mph in the
Mojave Desert Slopes and far south end of the Upper Sierra in
Kern County this morning. Currently several stations continue to
report wind gust exceeding 60 mph along the Mojave Desert slopes
and a High Wind Warning continues for this are until 1000 PM PST
this evening.

SREF is showing pressure gradients relaxing overnight and
Saturday morning which will result in diminishing winds as a
ridge shifts inland across CA tonight through Saturday night.
The ridge will bring clearing skies to our area along with the
decreased winds. Inversion conditions in the San Joaquin Valley
along the presence of low level moisture provided by last
night`s rainfall will make for an increased potential for dense
fog in the San Joaquin Valley. While there is some uncertainty
with the fog coverage on Satruday, the PoE of less than a
quarter mile visibility between Hanford and Merced is between 60
and 80 percent on Saturday morning.

The SREF continues to show another system moving across the PAC
NW and Norcal on Sunday which will bring chances of
precipitation to our area Sunday afternoon and evening. Since
this system is expected to take a more northerly track than the
system which impacted our area last night. This will result in
generally low QPF amounts with this system. The PoE for 0.10
inches of rainfall or higher is between 30 and 60 percent and
for 0.25 inches or high of rainfall is between 10 and 20 percent
for Merced County. Near Fresno, the PoE for 0.10 inches of
rainfall or higher is between 5 and 25 percent and for 0.25
inches or high of rainfall is below 5 percent. Yosemite National
Park has a 70 to 90 percent chance of picking up 0.25 inches or
more of liquid precipitation while Sequoia National Park has a
10 percent chance or less of picking up 0.25 inches or more of
liquid precipitation Sunday afternoon and evening.

Once this system departs the area by Monday, generally dry
conditions will prevail across our area for the remainder of
next week with a warming trend taking lace during the latter
portion of next week as the majority of the ensemble members are
showing an upper ridge prevailing over CA.

.AVIATION...00Z Update:

In the San Joaquin Valley and West Side Hills, areas of MVFR
ceilings and visibility in haze/mist. Increasing areas of IFR
after 10Z Sat with widespread IFR with areas of LIFR in the
form of dense fog may form by 15Z Sat and continue thru 20Z
Sat. After 20Z Sat, areas of MVFR ceilings and visibility in
haze/mist.

In the Sierra Nevada and adjacent foothills, VFR conditions
will prevail.

In the Tehachapi Mountains, areas of MVFR and local mountain
obscuring IFR in upslope clouds thru 18Z Sat. Otherwise, VFR
conditions will prevail.

In the Kern County Deserts, VFR conditions will prevail.

On Saturday December 28 2024, Fireplace/Wood Stove Burning
Status is: No Burning Unless Registered in Fresno, Kern, and
Madera Counties. Burning Discouraged in Kings, Merced, and
Tulare Counties, and Kern (Greater Frazier Park Area) and
Sequoia National Park and Forest.
